Serving the Community with Energy, Talents, and Time
One is not born into the world to do everything but to do something.– Henry David Thoreau
There is nothing like the feeling we get from serving others in need. In Henrico County Schools and the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, we encourage all of our students to become “thoughtful and active members of local and global communities.” To this end, the philosophy of Community and Service permeates our building, where you will find guest speakers motivating students to serve, grade level philanthropy initiatives inspiring students to give, and master teachers encouraging students to take action where they see a need.
Outside of class time, our students will volunteer at least 20 hours of their time, energy and talent to serve a variety of non-profit organizations, schools, and people who can not serve themselves.
We are committed to helping develop a sense of responsibility and citizenship within our students, and this page is designed to help parents, students, and the community understand the requirements, guidelines, and importance of service learning.
