What are the C & S logs?
The C & S logs are the documentation required by FMS IB MYP schools levels 1-3 to record progress in students completion of the 20 hour per year service committment. The logs for 2012-2013 are blue (the yellow was for 2011-2012) and have three collection dates: October 22 & 24, February 5 & 6, and May 7 & 8. The back of the log should have complete information in the student name, school, teacher (IB Enrichment), and grade. To receive credit, all blocks must be completed in legible handwriting; organization, sponsor, name of sponsor, title of sponsor, signature of sponsor, date and amount of time.
How do I receive credit for the service that I completed?
On the log collection dates, turn in your completed C & S log to your IB Enrichment teacher. Your reflection and goals must also be completed on the day that you turn in your C & S log. The C & S Chairperson will review your service record then submit the approved hours to the IB Enrichment teachers.
How do I know the amount of service that I completed?
The approved service hours will appear in the students IB Enrichment class HCPSlink grades. The category for C & S is not weighted, although a % grade appears, students should disregard that grade. C & S requirements are not graded, the number of hours is the ONLY part that students need to notice. The hours are listed per collection date, not cumulatively.
What if I did not complete any service during the log collection period?
There are no service requirements per C & S log collection date. As long as a student has 20 hours of service by the last log collection date (May 7 & 8) the student has met the IB C & S committment. A general rule is to complete the service is to submit seven hours of service each log collection date which would give a student 21 hours (one hour over the requirement).
How do I know if I met my service committment?
There is no deduction in grade or points for not having a Community and Service Log completed each quarter; however, IB students must accumulate a total of 20 hours of service by the final collection date.
How do I know the collection dates?
The collection dates appear on the front of the C & S log, at the top of this page, and on the C & S calendar. In addition, the IB Enrichment teachers will remind you about the collection dates and Ms. Edwards will post school space announcements.
What about the reflection requirement?
Reflections should be completed for each collection date of community and service. Students are required to complete the reflection to submit during the reflection date whether they have hours or not. For credit, reflections can be hand-written or printed then attached to the log returned on the due date.
How can I get a new log? What if I lost my log?
New Community and Service Logs will distributed to the students who returned logs each quarter. If a log is misplaced, a replacement log can be printed using the following links: Community Service Log 2012-13_pg1(4), Community and Service Log 2012-13_PG2 (3)
